Projects to promote use of the port and open access of the port by residents, centering on the port facilities

1. Projects connecting residents and port

(1) Kawasaki Minato Festival: To deepen understanding by residents and those involved in port affairs about Kawasaki Port, we cooperate with related organizations to organize Kawasaki Minato Festival with the theme of "Everyone's Kawasaki Port".

(2) Movie screening: To improve awareness of Kawasaki Marien, we organize DVD-based movie screening at Marien theater targeting children and their guardians during school holidays such as summer, winter, and spring breaks.

(3) New year sunrise viewing party

We open the Kawasaki Marien observatory to residents for viewing sunrise on the first day of new year. We also organize a new year sunrise viewing party.

(4) Summer holiday workshop

At Kawasaki Marien, we hold workshops such as "Bottle Ship" and "Bottle Art (stained drawing style)" for elementary school students and their guardians who are residents of the city. This is to promote maritime awareness and use of the Kawasaki Marien facilities.

(5) Summer break marine environment classroom

At the artificial beach in Higashi Ogishima Higashi Koen, we organize hands-on learning activities by experts for elementary school students to observe life of aquatic animals and plants. This enables them to become familiar with the sea of Kawasaki and to learn the importance of protecting the marine environment.

(6) Bottle ship workshop instructor training course: This is a course to train volunteer instructors of bottle ship workshops for children. Attendees are adults who are interested in bottle ship construction and also in becoming instructors to teach children. The course covers the basic to advanced levels.

(7) Illumination decoration and light-up

At year end and new year, the Kawasaki Marien plants are decorated and illuminated. Walls of Kawasaki Marien Service Building and Exchange Building are also lighted up. This gives a feeling of seasonal change for Kawasaki Marien and improves the charm of Kawasaki Marien.

(8) Organizing photo and children's painting competitions

We will hold the 7th Photo and Children's Painting Competition to provide an opportunity for residents to create photos or paintings with themes related to Kawasaki Port and Keihin beach coastal area. This will enable residents to feel closer to Kawasaki Port and understand the current condition of Kawasaki Port.

(9) Free exhibition space for renting: We provide space in the community hall on the 1st floor of the Kawasaki Marien Exchange Building to resident groups for exhibition of paintings and photos. The space is free for a maximum of one month. The will revitalize Kawasaki Marien by effectively utilizing space and attracting visitors.

(10) Showcasing charm of Kawasaki Marien:The accessibility of Tower Building 10th floor observatory, Exchange Building 2nd floor Marien Plaza, and Community Hall on the 1st floor are increased to improve the attractiveness of Kawasaki Marien.

(11) Kawasaki Port tour during summer holidays

During summer holidays, elementary school students and their guardians can tour the port on the Port Authority's patrol boat "Aozora" and are allowed to go inside the cargo ships for a look-around. This helps them deepen their understanding of the Kawasaki port's role and significance.

(12) Kawasaki Port attraction experience tour: We organize this event for the public so that they can tour port facilities and also facilities built for citizen use. From the sea, they can also view night activities of Kawasaki Port and factories located in the coastal area. This enables them to understand the role of Kawasaki Port and experience its charm.

(13) Port guide services: We are commissioned by Kawasaki City to provide guided tour of the port. Residents, researchers, business operators, internal/external tour groups, and other parties can tour the harbor from the sea on the patrol boat of the Port Authority. This enables them to understand the history, functions, roles, and importance of Kawasaki Port.
Also, we have set up councils with members from Kawasaki City and related businesses to provide tours of the harbor making use of the Higashi Ogishima floating bridge.

(14) Promotion of sports by holding sports classes and tournaments: We hold sports classes and tournaments at Kawasaki Marien's gym, tennis courts, beach volleyball area, and training room to increase the number of people playing various sports and to promote use of the facilities.

(15) New sports popularization project

We team up with private recreation companies to provide training sessions to popularize new sports utilizing Kawasaki Marien, Higashi Ogishima Naka Koen, and Higashi Ogishima Higashi Koen. Kawasaki Marien offers equipment for loan to facility users.

(16) Accommodation experience project: Children and their guardians can participate in day trips or overnight activities at the meeting room and training room of Kawasaki Marien. This will lead to the creation of new attractiveness of Kawasaki Marien.

(17) Tea ceremony classroom

Kawasaki Marien offers a Japanese style room for hosting tea ceremonies for participants to experience this tradition and hospitable manner.

(18) Attracting tourists: We collaborate with General Incorporated Association Kawasaki City Tourist Association. We also promote both inside and outside Japan the Kawasaki Marien observatory as a tourist attraction so as to increase tourists and school trip visitors. The observatory is listed in Japan Night View Legacy by General Incorporated Association Night view Convention Bureau.

(19) Production of Kawasaki Port guide book: We produce supplementary educational materials and distribute them to students of Kawasaki City elementary schools visiting for social studies. This enables them to understand Kawasaki Port.

(20) Wakame festival: We team up with environmental protection groups and hold Wakame harvest festivals using Wakame cultivated in the sea of Kawasaki. Through Wakame food tasting, we aim to raise awareness about environmental issues such as importance of sea and harbor.

(21) Protecting and observing wild birds: Kawasaki Marien and the adjoining Naka Koen are blessed with many wild birds. Residents can participate to protect the nature.

(22) Sports camps: We provide camps for youth workshops and training at our sports facilities.

(23) Co-sponsoring or supporting events: We co-host various tournaments and experiencing classes to enhance the image of Kawasaki Marien. We also try to attract tournaments and events to be held at our facilities. We aim to promote active use of our beach courts, tennis courts, gymnasium, and other facilities.

2. Management and operation of Kawasaki City Port Promotion Hall

As the designated manager of Kawasaki Marien, we manage and operate facilities built for citizen use such as gymnasium, conference rooms, training rooms, observatory, tennis courts, beach volleyball area, and parking area, as well as the port office, in accordance with their installation purpose. We aim to enhance the appeal of the facilities and increase the number of users.

3. Website-based information supply project

Information about Kawasaki Marien, Kawasaki Port Promotion Association projects, and events is provided via our website and Facebook to members, residents and those involved in port affairs.
